In this FAQ you will find answers to some frequently asked questions.
Can I make a reservation for 1 night on your camping?
Please not bother; we always have space so just drop by! We welcome all visitors! You can choose from the available spots, f.i. our nice ‘Park-4-1-night’ spots, close to all services. Please do arrive before 20h. We’ll settle the bill immediately and arrange fresh rolls for you so you can hit the road feeling refreshed the next morning!
Even for those travelers who did not discover that the beauty, possibilities and quietness of Quinta do Retiro in central authentic Portugal requires a stay of minimum 3 nights we will have a beautiful spot available! 🙂
Those ‘lucky ones’ which can spend 2 or more nights on Quinta do Retiro are most welcome to make reservations HERE.
Can I stay for one night in one of your rental accommodations?
Straight & simple: No. We consider ourselves a serious holiday parc, with all facilities. We are not a ‘cheap overnightspot’ (As a Thai ‘one hour hostel’). All additional costs like cleaningcosts, management- & bookingfee, etc would not make you happy either.
If you would like to discuss a special occasion with us, please feel welcome to contact the management!
What is there to do for young children?
Adjacent to Casa Mimosa, there is a children’s playground with a sandpit, tabletennis table, a playing castle with swings, things to climb on and a large trampoline. Also, by the river there is a lot to be explored and the children can play in a natural environment with the mud, sand and stones. There is even little fish to catch. And a mountain to climb with some waterfalls & old ruins. There is also enough material for children to build their own huts and of course the swimming pool on the property. In the area there also is a very good riding schools where horseriding can be learned or even a skatepark with lessons. There is many small & larger riverbeaches in the area.
What adaptations are there to Casa Oliveirinha that makes it suitable for wheelchairs and/or invalids?
Throughout this holiday home floors are all on one level, highly suitable for wheelchairs and the doorways have a width of 95cms. One of the bedrooms has extra floor space to allow easy manouverability with a wheelchair. The most important adaptations are to be found in the bathroom: the open shower has a level floor and there are handles and grips by the toilet, washbasin and in the shower. The washbasin also has a swivel mirror for your convenience. There is a special “shower wheel chair” available which will minimise lifting and transfers. This one can also be used in the outdoor shower on the terrace. Next to the apartment there is your own large parking area. The communal facilities such as the pool and terrace area are not that accessible for wheelchair users.
NB. Most pathways on the quinta are paved with solid materials but wheelchair users do have to take into account the undulating aspect of the terrain in general.
How is the WIFI on the quinta?
Free Wi-Fi via a fiberglass connection in the holiday homes and on almost all places on the campsite. However, we can not guarantee a constant range or speed data. This having said: we are now -as in October 2024- connected with a 1000Mbps glassfiber connection which will be enrolled on the terrain! Season 2025 we did not receive any complaints about our WIFI.
Are pets welcome?
Yes, but only when announced in advance when making a booking. We do not want animals to be a nuisance for other guests and it is a strict requirement that animals are well trained and dogs are on a leash. Also we do not allow animals around the communal spaces like the swimming pool and the children’s playground. Of course you are responsible for your pet and clean up the sh*t. Pets are not allowed in the rental tents.
Please understand that our Quinta is in the middle of nature which includes ‘wild’ animals. Please not leave your waste, rubbishbin, shoes, clothes outside in the night as ‘wild’ animals, including our dog, might find it interesting. Quinta do Retiro not accept any responsibility for lost or damaged goods.
Do you supply breakfast or lunch?
It is our choice not to be a B&B or an Hotel which is why our resort is self catering. During the season there are daily deliveries of fresh bread rolls which you can order. Also, we regularly host communal meals on a very nice location in a nice setting. Please see the activity calender for this! Some shopping can be done at the village cafe in Vila Nova de Oliveirinha or in Covas, both places about 800 metres away. The nearest restaurant is also on walking distance. In Oliveira do Hospital (approx 8 km away) there are several large, well stocked supermarkets.
